Twenty-five years after its foundation, the Philippine Association of Speech Pathologists (PASP) organized its first-ever 2-day convention last July 23-24, 2016 at the SMX Convention Center in SM Aura, Taguig. All the faculty members of the UST College of Rehabilitation Sciences (CRS) – Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Department joined in the said event as speakers, organizing committee members or participants.

Entitled “Beyond Borders: Global Trends – Local Relevance,” the convention boasted of international and local speakers, including the UST-CRS Chair Asst. Prof. Ma. Georgina D. Mojica, who presented “ Policies affecting the SLP professions”; Lecturers Ms. Judith A. Damian on “VFSS: The Road to Standardization”, and Ms. Carla A. Cuadro presenting “Working on Working Memory: Mediating Meaning in Cognitive Intervention.” Another member of the faculty, Mr. Jay Katalbas was the head of the Awards and Recognition Committee and the Technical Committee.

The UST CRS has graduated three batches of Thomasian SLPs since 2014. The alumni were likewise in attendance, and some even presented their undergraduate studies in the scientific poster sessions.

Capping the convention is a gala night, whose highlight was the awarding of the ‘Outstanding Service Award” that recognized the outstanding and exemplary service on behalf of and for the Association. Of the five awardees, two were faculty members of UST-CRS: Ma. Cynthia Rodriguez-Quiason and Ma. Georgina Mojica.
